Boston, MA: Charles C. Little and James Brown, 1841. Hardcover. First Edition. xl, 552 pp. 8vo. Brown cloth publisher's binding with bling embossed borders to covers, gold embossed titling to spine. Small losses to head and foot of spine, bumping and minor losses to corners. Light foxing within. Folding plate of map of the American southeast and where data was recorded is tipped in between pages 100/111 and in very good condition with a small trear at the upper right hinge and slight foxing. Good.
An important book in early meteorological science by James P. Espy (1785-1860) who was one of the first American meteorologists who developed the convenction theory of storms and, at one time, was known as the "Storm King" for his lectures on storms. Espy was the first to use telegraphs to track storm progress.
