Vegetation and Scenery in the Metropolitan Reservations of Boston. A Forestry Report Written by Charles Eliot and Presented to the Metropolitan Park Commission, February 15, 1897 by Olmsted, Olmsted & Eliot, Landscape Architects.

Boston, MA: Lamson, Wolffe and Company, 1898. Hardcover. First Edition. 23 pp. 57 Plates. Oblong 8vo. Crisp green cloth boards with gold embossed titling to cover. Interior very clean with two ownership stamps on front pastedown and copyright page of Marvin I. Adleman (1933-2017), longtime professor of landscape architecture at Cornell University. Three folding maps at rear tipped in: Stony Brook Reservation, Middlesex Fells, and Blue Hills. Stony Brook Reservation has a small tear at crease and in Very Good condition; two remaining maps are Fine. Fine.
A fascinating publication by the Olmsted Firm that includes a short report by Eliot but is illustrated by 51 photographic plates that illustrate current conditions at the time of the report. Following the photograhs are six drawings, four of which included a flap that shows current condition and view -- when the flap is folded back it reveals the impact to the view by the selective removal of overgrowth. A stunning way to illustrate the impact of changes that Eliot proposed.
